One of the distinct features the BV1900TS, being the latest model of the two, brings is the pre-infusion system; this will moisten the grind to better prepare the extraction and therefore allow optimal extraction of the aromas. Continue reading for more details on both the machines.

Bonavita 1800: Quick Review

The Bonavita BV1800SS 8-Cup machine is a coffee brewer that uses a 1400 watt heater to keep your coffee hot. The shower-type head provides equivalent saturation to each of the coffee grounds for great flavor. Some components are dishwasher safe. A small criticism is that the mark for the proper water level is around the tank. This is by no means a dealbreaker, but it can be a downside.

When the coffee has dried, it collects in a glass-lined stainless steel thermal carafe. The glass is of good quality but can shatter easily with any extreme change in temperature. So, make sure the jar is completely cooled to room temperature before cleaning it.

Another question is how this carafe pours out. If you try to pour with the lid, it comes out very slowly. If you choose to pour without a lid, it discharges very quickly and makes a huge mess.

  • One-touch brewing performance
  • Powerful 1400-watt heater
  • Thermal coated stainless-steel carafe
  • Components are dishwasher safe
  • Compact, lights, and super easy to use

  • The capacity of the water tank could be more
  • Not removable for cleaning

Bonavita 1900: Quick Review

Bonavita is doing something great with the BV1900TS for specialty coffees. This version has earned the Specialty Coffee Association’s Home Brewer certification and is widely used in the offices of many business organizations. This makes full-bodied Java coffee that is not overbearing. However, although it’s more expensive than the previous model, it is cheap and small enough to be used by almost anyone.

The Bonavita brewer makes coffee pots that are perfect for the vast majority of coffee drinkers, and also offers a gateway to more complex brewing ideas.

It is of course no wonder why this machine became the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s best filter coffee machine and received the Certified Home Brewer award. This extraordinary coffee machine is one of the few filter coffee machines that has been certified for performance and quality Trusted Source Certified Home Brewers — Specialty Coffee Association for use at home by the SCAA.

  • Will fit under any cabinet
  • Simple one-button design
  • Wide showerhead for optimal extraction
  • Has few parts which ensure ease of cleaning
  • Certified by the SCAA

  • Doesn’t get the last bit of coffee ground out

Bonavita 1800 vs. 1900: The Difference

Bonavita has really taken extraction technology to its limits and allows you to make a near-perfect cup with both of these machines. But they’re so similar that choosing between the two doesn’t come easy. However, here are the key differences you should watch out for.

They have a very similar design right off the bat. The old model, the Bonavita 1800 has a slightly bigger carafe in terms of width but they’re about the same height.

The Bonavita 1800 has a slightly wider body in terms of the reservoir, but the Bonavita 1900 is different. The Bonavita 1800 has a dark type of BPA-free plastic, but we found that it was a bit difficult to see where the water level was.

The Bonavita 1900 however is lighter and easier to see on the left side. It has a level indicator that is measured in liters and there’s an inside carafe just like the previous model.

You’ll notice again that the Bonavita 1900 has about four more holes than the Bonavita 1800 showerheads. However, one of our issues with both of these brewers is that the water isn’t coming out of all of them at all times. We’re not sure if this is intentional or not. However, it screams inconsistency.

Nonetheless, both coffee machines are designed with an auto-off feature that turns the machine off after about 1.5 hours of use.

Bonavita 1800 vs 1900: Is New Always Better?Ease of Use

Owners of the Bonavita 1800 coffee machine are very enthusiastic about how easy the machine is to use. Instructions are easy and convenient to follow using the “Bonavita Extraordinary Brew” operating manual. The Bonavita 1900 is also easy to use and clean. Both have a one-touch button operation for simplified brewing.

  • To use the Bonavita filter coffee makers, follow the following procedures:
  • Put a coffee filter. Ideally, rinse it beforehand to get rid of any odors.
  • For 100 ml of water, pour 7 grams of finely ground coffee
  • Put the water in the tank
  • Push the button
  • And that’s all! The machine will take care of the rest.
  • The extraction of the coffee will only start once the correct infusion temperature has been reached, always to optimize the extraction of the coffee.

Brew Speed

The Bonavita BV1800 coffee machine has a 1400-watt heater that throws the water to the ideal brewing temperature of 205 degrees Celsius and a well-designed pipe head that distributes the water evenly over the coffee for complete saturation. The coffee machine can therefore brew 8 cups of coffee in under 6 minutes. Many who have tested this ability found that the machine truly made under 9 cups in less than 6 minutes.

Meanwhile, the BV1900 has a more powerful heating element that has the power of 1500 watts. What this means is the Bonavita 1900 will heat faster than its younger brother, ensuring better flavor and quality of extraction. However, Bonavita insists that this machine cannot produce more than eight cups in six minutes.

The Quality of Coffee You Get

Bonavita 1800 vs 1900: Is New Always Better?Customers who have bought the Bonavita BV1800 coffee machine all agree on one thing in their reviews, namely that this impressive little machine makes delicious coffee. Delicious, strong, hot, and no plastic taste, these are the main features of this machine!

On the other hand, the coffee the BV1900TS makes isn’t as smooth as the majority of high-end machines, but it’s less bodied than the more expensive versions. Precisely the same coffee maker can be had as a programmable variant for a few dollars more, but programmable coffee makers (unless they have built-in grinders) can’t explain the reduction in freshness.

However, where the Bonavita 1900 edges the Bonavita 1800 is this model does have the pre-infusion technology. In the Bonavita 1800, the showerhead only saturates the brew basket. The brew basket in the Bonavita 1900 is flat and makes full extraction possible.

Both coffee brewing machines have a water reservoir of 40 ounces. That is why both can make eight cups of coffee for each full capacity extraction at almost the same number of minutes.

However, the BV1900TS is a well-rounded size, small enough to start with. It can be placed under cabinets. In addition, it is not wide enough to consume huge expanses of the countertop. But if the BV1900TS is said to be compact, then its little brother is smaller!

The BV1800 coffee brewing machine has dimensions of 11x 7 x 12 inches. Meanwhile, the BV1900TS has a dimension of 12 x 7 x 12 inches.

Safety Features

Both machines are not lacking in the aspect of safety. Both come with automatic shut-off technology. While the Bonavita 1800 variant will shut off after 1.5 hours of unused, the number of hours or minutes required for the automatic shutoff of the BV1900TS is not stated.

However, the BV1800TS has a one-touch button that ensures ease and safety of use. In addition, the plastic items in both models are free from Bisphenol A (BPA)

Ease of Maintenance

The cleaning of both of these models is easy as all removable parts can be washed in the dishwasher. However, like other coffee machines, you need to descale the coffee brewer once every 100 coffee cups.

Currently, the BV1900TS is rated 4.2 out of 5 in ease of cleaning by users of the product. Meanwhile, the BV1800 is rated 3.9 out of 5 by the users.

We don’t know why but there’s always some coffee leftover in the bottom of the Bonavita 1800. So, it’s not going to be able to get through the hole as a result. However, that has changed in the newer model as you can take the filter out. So it’s a flat bottom basket.

For hygiene purposes, the BV1800SS model has a one-touch button for brewing which can also be used for washing the machine.

Bonavita 1800 vs 1900: Is New Always Better?Durability and Warranty

These award-winning coffee masterpieces come with a choice of glass, stainless steel, or vacuum jugs and also includes a 2-year manufacturer’s guarantee.

There is a glass material inside the carafe of the Bonavita 1800, but a few users reported that it broke during extraction. This is largely caused when the coffee maker has exceeded its rated temperature capacity.

The good thing is these coffee makers come to the market at fair prices. However, one thing that is hard to explain is the latest, newer, and more powerful model being the cheapest of the two. The BV1900TS is sold for less than $220 on the market while the BV1800 is still being sold for a price of more than $250. On top of that, Bonavita’s customer support is exceptional, and the cost is hard to beat.

So, Which to Choose?

For the sake of comparison, we’ve done a side-by-side comparison of the BV1800 and the BV1900 by Bonavita. So you can see which one is best for you by now.

The Bonavita 1800 is an ideal machine for office use and meetings. With its insulated jug and capacity of one liter, you can prepare coffee for your meetings and serve it always hot. Meanwhile, the Bonavita 1900 is certified by the SCAA for home use.

Final Thoughts

Filter coffee machines like the Bonavita 1800 and the Bonavita 1900 are the most widely used machine in households. The coffee machines can be used at home or in the office.

The advantage is obvious: the coffee can be prepared quickly, conveniently and, above all, in large quantities. The simple one-button operation makes the extraction of coffee very easy and helps coffee lovers, who often want to do everything in the coffee kitchen at the same time, to brew their daily dose of caffeine. Both machines will also be suitable for office use as each can make up to 8 cups in just under 6 minutes. However, as we have emphasized in the Bonavita 1800 vs 1900 article, the Bonavita BV1900 is certified for use by homebrewers while the other one can also be deployed for use in the office.

However, what makes the BV1900 seem to edge out the Bonavita 1800 is that it’s the latest model of the two, has the most powerful heating element, and is sold for a lower price than the Bonavita 1800.
