Crema Coffee is a relatively recent addition to the coffee subscription market. While it may have gone unnoticed for the first few years, now it’s making enough waves in the market to be noticeable. The coffee options available are numerous and, more often than not, highly rated.

Given its steadily growing prominence around home gourmet coffee drinkers, a Crema Coffee review becomes necessary. For coffee lovers who’ve used the service, the review can help confirm what they already know, as well as tell them how the service stacks up against others like it. About the company

Crema Coffee was launched in 2015, which is fairly recent. Since then, it’s been growing its repertoire of offerings to match the wide expectations of the market. The process has taken several years, but with 400+ coffee options available and about 57 roasters, there’s no doubt that these few years have been busy but productive.

Most customers and coffee subscribers think highly of the brand and would not consider a different option. It’s easy to see why once you’ve reviewed the service fully. Also, it seems to have many positive attributes in terms of experience, satisfying the customer needs, having enough options to choose from, coffee freshness, and more.

There’s also a bit to complain about here and there, but nothing too major. In fact, most coffee lovers actively ignore the hang-ups if they can afford the coffee. It has piqued our interest enough to warrant a review, the results of which have been given below.

Crema Coffee subscription review

Notably, Crema Coffee doesn’t just pick coffee roasters at random. Most are independently-owned companies that have won awards for their offerings. They also tend to be small businesses that need all the help they can get to grow. This is not to mean that the customer is shortchanged in any way.

They get a wide variety of coffee options, as we mentioned above. These offerings are all on the subscription’s website for your perusal, and so you can compare them to others. This allows unrestricted control over what kind of beans arrive at your doorstep in terms of flavor.

Additionally, there’s also significant consideration given to the fact that not all coffee drinkers are the same. Their brewing equipment is different, their tastes are different, and the way they like their coffee is likely different from other coffee lovers as well.

Consequently, as you peruse through the options, you’ll notice that you can control these aspects, so the coffee is just the way you like it. One example of this is in the roast options available. There are enough light, medium, and dark roasted coffees available in the subscription service to match your preferred roast type. This even includes the medium-light and medium-dark varieties.

The type of grind depends on whether you prefer espresso, a cold brew, or machine-brewed coffee. While Crema Coffee and most coffee lovers understand that the beans are best when shipped whole, some people still prefer pre-ground coffee.

Rather than judge them, Crema Coffee does its best to accommodate them and their needs. As such, you can get the coffee in whole bean options if that’s what you like. However, getting it as course ground, medium ground, or even fine ground is possible if that’s more in line with your likes and preferences.

Also, with coffee sourced from all over the world, you expect numerous taste variations.

You do get different bag sizes, so you never take on too much or too little coffee. Additionally, there’s a match-up quiz that’s been relatively common in new coffee subscription services. It can prove quite helpful to anyone who’s not really sure what they want in their coffee or even those trying to experiment.

Another positive that’s bound to impress some coffee enthusiasts is the inclusion of some certified alternatives in the mix. Consequently, if you insist on organic coffee, that’s precisely what you get.

Lastly, as a business institution in the modern world, Crema Coffee is pretty unique in its lack of a social media presence. If you keep reading, you can find the reasons why, in addition to in-depth details about the Crema Coffee subscription.

How it works

Crema Coffee Subscription Review: Choose from 450+ Coffee Options

The subscribing process involves you taking a special quiz to find your most preferred coffee option.

You’ll be prompted to take the match-up quiz/questionnaire we mentioned above at the Crema Coffee website. It’s not a test and shouldn’t be too hard to complete within a minute or two. There are also some incentives to take the test, such as the $5 price reduction for your first pack.

The quiz consists of eight questions that you can answer based on previous experience with coffee. Once done, you’ll be asked whether you’d like the “Set & forget” subscription or the “Order when I want” option. Crema Coffee’s algorithm then sifts through the close to 450 coffee options to see which ones fit your criteria.

The algorithm can then suggest a few coffees, including some sampler options that include about three coffees in smaller packages. That way, the chances of you choosing one from the three that embodies your ideal coffee are heightened. However, picking packages that only include one coffee is also allowed.

For the single-package coffees, you can pick the size you want. As for the samplers that contain multiple smaller portions, they are a maximum of 12lbs. Nonetheless, subsequent purchases after you’ve decided the options you want can be larger.

After you’ve become a full member, you can pause, stop, or continue the subscription as your needs require.

Also, it’s possible to rate each coffee, and if you change your coffee option regularly, the algorithm will use your ratings to give you better suggestions.

Membership options

The most basic membership option is the a la carte, where you’re not actually subscribed to the service, but you can order the coffee whenever you want to. As for the set & forget subscription, you can pick your coffee based on the suggestions you get after taking the quiz.

You can leave the coffee subscription as it is, or you can edit it or pause it if necessary. Canceling the subscription altogether is another option at your disposal.

Notably, Crema Coffee also has another unique membership feature where you curate a coffee playlist. With the 400+ options readily available, you can add individual alternatives to the playlist just as you would with the music on your phone.

At your next shipment, the coffee that’s at the top of your list is the one that will be roasted and sent out to you. If you’re pretty adventurous with your coffee, this could be quite a rewarding experiment.

Another option that could technically qualify as a membership option is the “Workplace.” This option works best for office settings. Like the set & forget, you curate a coffee playlist, set the budget and shipping frequency, and invite the workers to the platform. Your workers can then request whichever coffees they like within the budget constraints and even rate them according to their drinking experience.

Shipping location, time, and costs

As a buyer, you likely appreciate any opportunity you get to save money. Since Crema Coffee doesn’t charge any shipping fees, this could be one of those opportunities. Notably, this applies to both the set & forget subscription and a la carte options. Consequently, the price you get when you browse through the individual coffees is the same one that you’ll pay to have the beans delivered.

As for the location, you can only get Crema Coffee’s selection of bean options if you’re a US resident. The roasters are all located in the US as well, which makes shipping faster and easier. This is why on average, the maximum wait time is five days. Often the shipping takes about three days.

Coffee variety, taste, and quality

The subscription offers you a wide variety of flavors

The coffee variety is downright impressive. Sure there are some alternatives with more coffee options, but they can overwhelm you if they become too many. Of course, the differences in bean options and roasters likely result in differences in quality and taste. However, the fact that most of these roasters have won awards for their work is proof enough that the quality is top-of-the-line.

With regards to the taste, you can get just about any coffee flavor you can think of. In our review, we taste-tested the medium-roast Epic coffee, the dark-roast Brazil Teodoro’s Italian roast, and the light-roast Ethiopia Dur Feres Natural.

The first was syrupy and tasted a bit like hot chocolate with hints of berries. The second had some almond and chocolaty flavors with hints of tobacco. As for the Dur Feres Natural, there was the taste of berries, nuts, and red wine in the coffee.

These are just but three of the available options from three countries. Statistics by the World Population Review Trusted Source Coffee Producing Countries 2021 Did you know that coffee starts as fruit from cherry trees? That’s right! Coffee beans are made from cherries. And like every product that starts as a seed and becomes a plant before the finished product surfaces, coffee does not grow well or sustainably in all parts of the world. worldpopulationreview.com show there are still about 67 other countries producing coffee. As such, Imagine what you could get with the more than 400 other options on offer by Crema Coffee in terms of taste variety.

Certifications

While this doesn’t apply to all the coffee beans on offer, some are indeed certified, with the main certifications being Certified Organic and Fair Trade certified. Consequently, if you need third-party reassurance, there are some options for you.

Even for those that aren’t certified, the Crema Coffee management will look into how the beans are sourced by the roaster to ensure no one is taken advantage of. This helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the service and the roasters it deals with.

Price

The price of the Crema Coffee subscription is likely going to rub some buyer’s shoulders the wrong way. While some of the competition can offer coffee for as low as $10 or less, Crema Coffee’s options start at about $15 or more. Consequently, some people cannot afford the product.

Nevertheless, some considerations make this pricing a necessity. For example, you can’t require ethical dealings from your roasters and, by extension, the coffee growers if you don’t pay them enough.

Additionally, the slightly higher pricing goes a long way in ensuring top-tier quality in every bag of beans or grounds that ships out. Lastly, as we mentioned above, shipping is always free. As such, some of the cost of delivering may be covered by the higher prices. All in all, if affordability isn’t an issue, getting this subscription does seem like a good idea.

Packaging

The beans come in stylish lightproof bags

Most of the coffees sold by Crema Coffee arrive in lightproof bags designed by individual roasters. As such, it might be wise to invest in a lightproof and sealable container to ensure each set of beans can be stored for longer. Also, some of the bags are even compostable or recyclable, which can make getting rid of them after use a cinch.

Customer service

Like most other organizations that sell products or services, Crema coffee also has a customer service and support team. Their email is always open, and you can reach out for timely answers. Also, clicking on the support button on the service’s website automatically redirects you to the necessary email address.

Website user experience

Crema Coffee Subscription Review: Choose from 450+ Coffee Options

The Crema.co website is a joy to use

The Crema Coffee website is everything you would expect of such a highly rated subscription service and more. If you’re new, you can just follow the “Get started” prompt that takes you through the questionnaire, suggests a few coffee options, and allows you to tweak the subscription as you see fit.

This process is so simple you could be in and out of the website in minutes after subscribing or purchasing a one-off coffee. Additionally, it’s possible to run through the 400+ coffee options on the shop page or buy sample kits.

There are even pages that give you access to more information about coffee, including how-to guides and some unique coffee terms. According to the Specialty Coffee Association Trusted Source Coffee Plants of the World — Specialty Coffee Association The botanical genus colloquially referred to as the “coffee genus,” which is comprised of over 120 individual species. These are generally opposite-leaved, evergreen shrubs or small understory trees with a horizontal branching pattern. sca.coffee , there are over 120 individual species of coffee, and you can find some of the information about them on the guides page.

Other features

If you’re interested in gifting someone coffee, the Crema Coffee service offers you that opportunity. It more or less works like the Workplace option, where you set a budget and select the people to send it to.

It works for up to ten people at a time, and each receives an email with the link to the service. They’ll decide when to sign up and tweak the subscription to match their needs.

Once they’ve used up the money you gifted them, they have the option to extend the subscription on their own. Nevertheless, there won’t be any additional charges on you and your credit card. Another unique feature is the “send to friend” button. With this one, you select the coffee you like and send it to your friend or family.

Notably, Crema Coffee also has zero social media presence which is something we mentioned above. It may seem counterproductive in the age of social media marketing, but most existing customers don’t have a problem with it.

However, this limits your options for contacting the management to email if you have issues or questions.

PROS CONS
  • More than 400 coffees to pick from
  • A selection of 57 award-winning roasters to choose from
  • Free shipping to the US
  • There’s a gifting option
  • The Workplace option works for office scenarios
  • Crema Coffee has an algorithm to match you with coffee that gets better at its job with the ratings you give
  • Prompt shipping within 3-5 days of roasting
  • You can get the coffees in whole bean and ground options depending on the options available
  • The coffees are fairly expensive
  • The lack of a social media presence limits the opportunities to contact the service and ask questions

Conclusion

Crema does well in so many areas that for most people, the higher price is a non-issue. Also, since there aren’t many complaints, even the lack of social media pages may not be a problem for most subscribers. Consequently, it is a pretty good deal for any coffee consumer who can afford it, whether a gourmet lover or otherwise.
