The Curate Coffee Collective opened its first location less than 2 years ago in Portland, Oregon, and it now seems to be expanding. They recently opened their co-roasting business in another location with a larger facility that allows for expanded programming and has more equipment. This collective initially catered to the Pacific Northwest coffee roasters, but it has now added a Probat P12 roaster and a Diedrich IR-5 roaster in addition to their 15-kilo Loring Falcon to increase production. Curate Coffee Collective relocated their Sovda Pearl Mini sorter into which all roasts from the Loring are put and the nitro-flush band sealer as well as the Sovda Precision Fill weigh-and-fill machine.

These machines are used to connect various roast inventory management, automation, and monitoring technological solutions. The new location also has sample roasting equipment, including an Aillio Bullet roaster with a 1-kilo-capacity in addition to their Coffeetech FZ-94 Pro-Lab roaster with a 2.4-kilo-capacity.

Based on a CNN Trusted Source Drinking more coffee can lead to a longer life, new studies say | CNN A higher consumption of coffee is linked to a longer life, two new studies say, with the benefits applicable across multiple races. www.cnn.com article, drinking coffee is good for your health and can lead to a longer life. This is one of the reasons why the consumption of coffee has increased. According to Drew Dodson, the general manager in Curate Coffee Collective, the 2 new rosters increase the scaling stages in the production process, enabling the roasters to increase workflow and production automation & efficiency in a singular location.

The new expanded Curate location has an open ground-floor layout located a few blocks of the water from the Fremont Bridge and features more capacity for members’ coffee storage, including full pallets & small lockers. It also has additional amenities such as a common lounge area fully equipped with brewing equipment, an SCA-certified cupping lab that has a flavor wheel, as well as an espresso machine (Marzocco GS3 espresso). In addition, there are talks of adding private meeting spaces and shared office spaces soon.

The membership packages begin at $100 monthly. This is inclusive of 4-5 hours of roasting time on small machines and full access to the location. The larger machines are charged at an hourly rate and are often discounted according to volume.

The new Curate facility acts as a hub for various organizations, including Sovda headquarters, a US manufacturer of roaster equipment, Akiva, a custom cupping spoon brand, Torch Coffee Roaster, and wholesale and coffee importing operations for Curate. It’s also home to the Sustainable Coffee Institute (SCI) Trusted Source Sustainable Coffee Institute Sustainable Coffee Institute is a Registered 501 c3 Non-Profit Organization www.sci.coffee , an educational nonprofit that prioritizes Curate Collective members. This institute hosts programming in the new location at an enclosed classroom that can hold 20 students. It also has a cupping lab that comes in handy during sensory discussions and training. The course topics range from coffee shop and roastery management & operations, roasting & roast theory, cupping, and post-harvest processing.

Dodson also highlighted that during COVID, most people refrained from starting a coffee business either because they lacked the connections or resources required to partner up with a roastery facility, had capped out spaces and run-down equipment, or didn’t meet the minimum scale criteria. This is why Curate is the best option for emerging roasters.

It’s also expected that the Sovda Precision Silo will be coming soon, adding the final puzzle to Curate’s new facility. This silo will mostly cater to the high-volume members and is expected to be launched later in the year.
