In this Krups EA8250 review, we found that this is a good basic, reliable espresso machine for first-time owners who don’t want a coffee machine that requires a big learning curve.  It is not the machine for a caffeine gourmand who needs several digital settings and a high-quality ceramic blade to grind their coffee beans for flavor, as this machine only has four coffee drink settings. The fact that it has a huge water tank at 60 ounces and a bean hopper that can hold 9.6 ounces of beans tells us that it is the most suitable for those who enjoy drinking numerous cups of java all day long. It’s also a good unit for an office as both the water tank and hopper hold about ten cups worth of coffee drinks. An annoyance is the amount of manual activity the Krups EA8250 requires to brew your coffee first and then put foam out of it. Yet to make up for this minor annoyance, the Krups company has installed a cup warmer on the top of the machine to help keep your brew warm while you are frothing your milk.

Review

The Krups EA8250 is somewhat unique looking compared to other espresso makers as it is devoid of the usually brushed steel. It is a smaller, plastic unit that is easily moved around at just 10.4 pounds if you need to clear space on a small kitchen counter. It is a fully automatic 1450 watt espresso/coffee machine that tucks beneath most kitchen counters at 11.5” x 8” x 12.5, which is a very convenient size.

The reservoir is top-loading so remember when placing the machine on the counter to leave a bit of room to pull the reservoir out from its stowing place by its plastic handle.

The color of this machine is solid black with aluminum buttons and a single ergonomic knob dead center. It is made of ABS plastic and comes in one color: utilitarian black. ABS plastic Trusted Source What is ABS Plastic | How is ABS Material Made | Key Properties of ABS | Applications of ABS Plastic | Advantages & Disadvantages of ABS Plastic ABS Plastic is a rigid, versatile, and high-strength engineering thermoplastic with applications in automobile, electronics, and appliances. plasticranger.com is an impact-resistant thermoplastic and amorphous polymer that is opaque in nature, so this particular coffee drink has no transparent elements like most stainless steel models. While doing our research for this Krups EA8250 some users found the plastic to be quite flimsy, yet that probably accounts for its affordability at less than $600.00. US.

Overall performance and functions

The Krups EA8250 has many great features, some more high-performance than others, with its best feature is that the amount of water it holds pairs well with the 9.6 ounces of beans. That kind of hopper has almost pro-level capacity. This makes sure you are not fussing with one part of the machine while another part is in operation. A timer ensures that the unit is heating up in time to press that morning coffee that you so enjoy. However, you cannot time when your coffee is brewed in the morning. It would help if you press a brew button and then select your barista-style drink of choice on display in the morning.  The directions for operating the machine on the backlit digital display are universal and pictorial in style, making it easy for anyone from any culture to manage.

The grinder is inset into the top of the machine, along with a handy ceramic cup warmer. Prewarming your cup helps keep your coffee hot while you are frothing the milk. The grinder is made of steel, not the usual ceramic, so our main criticism is that the heat generated by the whirring blades might burn the beans a bit and give them a bitter taste. Using less oily beans is recommended to help avoid this problem, as oily beans can be pretty bitter tasting in the first place.

Choosing a high-quality bean is important if you want to enjoy Barista-style coffee drinks at home, possibly because you are making your own coffee while working at home. Trusted Source Coffee drinkers are seeking out subscriptions and higher-end beans amid the pandemic - CNN When millions of Americans suddenly found themselves homebound amid the pandemic, they didn’t skimp on their java. Increased at-home coffee consumption has translated into a relative boom for some smaller-scale coffee roasters. www.cnn.com

Be aware that using oily beans can actually ruin a machine’s top grinding by gumming up its internal workings. Also, be aware that oily beans may result from over roasting them so that they sweat, with the result that flavor is lost.

There are two ways to froth the milk while using the Krups EA8250. One is by using the built-in auto-frother that comes with a steel cup included in your package or by using the more manual telescopic frother attached to the machine. The unit has a digital display that helps you decide what move to make next: grind, brew, select a drink, and clean the machine. The machine also requires you to perform a two-step process to create a special drink. First, you brew the coffee, and then you move the coffee to another spigot or use the frother to make the foam. In the meantime, you keep the coffee made by setting in the cup warmer on top of the machine. A quick tip is to clean your nozzles and the frothing cup as soon as possible after use to prevent the need to scrape hardened milk from the unit.

It presents you with the opportunity to make four kinds of drinks: Espresso, Americano, Café Latte, and Cappuccino. You can make these and other types of barista specialties Trusted Source 11 Unwritten Rules of Weed Etiquette | Man of Many If you want to avoid making a dick of yourself next time you go for a toke, you need to get acquainted with proper weed etiquette. manofmany.com , such as Cortadas and Flat Whites, by adjusting the water flow manually with the center ergonomic knob. These presets are the eternal default settings on the unit and cannot be adjusted.

Controls

Like many machines on the market today, the Krups Espressieria Automatic has a digital display that guides you to choose different options. The machine’s mechanical parts, such as the inbuilt coffee grinder, are operated with a button push. There is also a digital display with four buttons, including an ON/OFF button, SETTINGS, HOT WATER, and STEAM. A knob in the center of the unit offers you a beverage: espresso, strong espresso, coffee, and long coffee. This is the equivalent of an ounce, 2 ounces, 2 ounces with six ounces of water, and an ounce or two ounces with 8 ounces of water. As the machine has a manual aspect allowing you to change things with just a twist of the knob, you can control the water flow; you just can’t save a specialty of drink once you make it.

As with most automatic machines, you can program start and auto shut-off time for the water brewing by simply following a few prompts on a digital display. You can add foam, but this is a manual, not a digitally lead procedure. An added plus is that this telescopic wand also dispenses boiling water, allowing you to make tea, hot chocolate, and powdered drinks. However, when it comes to creating each type of barista specialty, the Espresso, Americano, Café Latte, and Cappuccino, you must manually select once the machine has reached its optimal temperature.

Pump power

Like all espresso machines, the Krups EA8250 Espressia relies on pressure rather than gravity to push water through the grounds into a waiting and preferably pre-warmed cup.  The hydraulic system has the same type of tamping and thermos-blocking technology as much larger espresso units, which is one of the outstanding features of this unit.

This machine is a pump rated at fifteen bars, the same pressure used in professional barista models. A bar measures pressure, with one bar being equal to atmospheric pressure at sea level. The machine must be at least nine bars of pressure while pressing boiling water through the grounds to make a great espresso.  This model is fifteen bars, so it is more than proficient in its pump power.

Serving volumes

An aluminum knob in the center of the machine adjusts the amount of water dispensed by the unit, giving you an espresso, strong espresso, coffee, and long coffee. A shot of espresso is considered to be one fluid ounce, while a strong two ounces coffee is usually six ounces, and a long coffee is eight ounces.

Here is a tip: to make two cups of coffee at the same time, select the long coffee function and push the knob twice.

The machine will then take you through two complete brewing cycles. However, be ready with the cups below the fixtures to make the cup of coffee in time.

Brewing speed

The EA8250 has a pre-brewing technology. The taste of the coffee is optimized by the EA8250’s ability to moisten the coffee grounds first.

Once hot, this efficient and simple-to-use machine can brew you a cup of hot espresso in seconds. However, as it only has a single boiler instead of a double boiler, you spend additional seconds waiting for the boiler to switch to steam.  Many commercial units take minutes to do this rather than seconds, which is one of the reasons this Krups EA8250 review gives the unit high ratings, despite some of its other setbacks.

Frothing is also fast and easy using the steam nozzle. Simply insert a nozzle into the jug and press STEAM. Pressing the button once again stops the frothing command.

Design and construction

This is not a heavy-duty espresso machine. It is constructed of lightweight but durable plastic. Its tidy dimensions allow it to fit easily under most shelves and on most counters. The interface is a simple LCD display with prompts that are easy to follow; however, the customization options are very limited. The only setting that can be saved is water temperature. A central control knob can be twisted to control the amount of water flowing into your cup.

The unit has a huge water tank at 60 ounces and a bean hopper that holds 9.6 lbs. of beans that work well in tandem together so that you are not fussing overfilling the tank while grinding the beans.

There is a selection of four drinks that you can just “push and brew”: Espresso, Americano, Café Latte, and Cappuccino. If you decide to brew your own drink, you can’t save a “new selection” resulting from manually adjusting the water.

Dimensions and weight

The first thing to note about the Krups espresso machine EA8250 is its smaller size. It measures just 11.5”x8”x12.5”, weighs just 10.4 lbs., and is energy efficient.  The fact that the unit is so lightweight means you can take it camping or on the road or even store it in a lower cupboard in your kitchen to give yourself more counter space. It fits nicely on a desk or shelf at the office or even in a nook in the tiniest of condos.

This espresso machine’s impressive feature is its whisper-quiet operation, which is unusual for a steel burr grinder machine.

Water tank capacity

The larger water tank capacity of this Espresseria EA8250 means that you are not running back and forth with a cup every time you feel like making a cup of coffee. Each fill-up easily makes six to ten cups of coffee, making this a good unit to install in the office. The only drawback to this is if you are sharing the unit in an office with multiple people, the water you are making your brew with might not be that fresh if it was standing overnight.

Bean hopper

For its size, the bean hopper of the Krups EA8250 Espressia is quite substantial, with the ability to hold 9.6 ounces of beans.  However, there can be some issues with using beans that are too oily as they may leave residue in the hopper, and also, there is the possibility of the oil from beans clogging the grinder.

Krups EA8250 Review: the Perfect Espresso Machine to Start Your Morning

The knob located in the hopper allows for 3 grind sizes to choose from.

Integrated grinder

The integrated grinder in this unit has a built-in metal conical burr that adjusts to different settings. The finer setting grinds your coffee beans to make espresso, and the coarser setting makes a regular cup of coffee. The grinder uses stainless-steel burrs, which heat up as the beans whirr through the beans, which can give a burnt taste to your coffee. This means that any espresso drink you make with this machine might have a smokier taste as it takes longer to grind the beans down to a powder.

Other features

Coffee used

On average, a single espresso shot of one ounce will use 71 coffee beans, and a double shot will use 142 coffee beans. This is the equivalent of approximately two heaping tablespoons of coffee. For best results in this type of coffee-maker, remember to use dry coffee beans instead of oilier ones. Once you have to use the coffee grounds, they are easily dumped into the removable cake container.

Safety features

The machine has an auto shut-off feature that switches off after four hours. You can prevent burns from steam if you use the telescopic wand that extends to fit whatever cup you are using.

Ease of maintenance

The Krups EA8250 is very easy to maintain and only requires replacing the water filter every two years or so. However, you can dispense using the water filter altogether if you use distilled water, instead of tap water, in the espresso machine.

Cleaning the machine is very easy, and there is a small plastic self-help guide book built slotted into the back of the machine, hidden behind a snap-off plastic panel. Pull the tab on the panel, pop out the book, and you can find out which buttons to put to put the machine through its cleaning paces. In this book, you will also find support numbers to call the company with questions about the Espressieria EA250.

A cleansing tablet is used to clean the interior of the machine. You pop the pill in the top of the brew unit and then put it through a rinse cycle about once a week. The water reservoir is easily cleaned by grabbing it by the handle and detaching it from its base, and it is recommended that you clean the water reservoir once a week by removing it and simply rinsing it with a bit of soap and water and then another good hot rinse.

The machine will also alert you if it needs a descaling, and a special Krups powder is included with the machine to use during the cycle.

However, you have to set the electronic date function to be alerted when it is time to clean the machine.

The steam wand should be rinsed out after each use. It is flushed automatically after you press the Hot Water button. A special needle is included with the espresso machine; you can use it to route out and clean out any clogs in the air inlet hole.

The drip tray and cake container are also removable so that you can dump any grounds or spillage and then wipe the component out. It is equipped with floats that inform you via the digital display that the tray is full of old coffee and other residues and must be emptied.

Warranty

This all-in-one coffee espresso machine with an integrated milk froth system has a limited two-year warranty.

Price tag

The price of a Krups EA8250 is $662.87 US, which is quite affordable in this reviewer’s opinion. The Krups is the perfect low-priced coffee machine for people who do not want to learn much about the machine and just want to start brewing. It is ideal for the novice, but not so much for the gourmet who may notice the bitterness in the brew courtesy of the steel grinder. The machine demands that you sacrifice some customization options, but for the most part, the coffee that it makes is just as good as the cup of java you can get locally. However, you will save a great deal of money by making your own gourmet caffeine drink at home instead of going out to a big chain and spending four dollars or more on a similar drink.
