Equipment

  • Pot
  • Strainer (preferably mesh)
  • Measuring cups
  • Sterilized glass jar
  • Espresso machine / manual espresso maker / French press / moka pot

Ingredients

Lavender syrup

  • 1/4 cup dried lavender
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white sugar

Lavender latte

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2/3 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 2 tbsp lavender syrup

Instructions

Making the lavender syrup

  • Boil water with lavender
First, you will combine the water and lavender in a small saucepan on high.
  • Add sugar and water if needed, bring to a boil
As the water and lavender begin to heat, mix in sugar, stirring until it dissolves. Bring the contents to a boil.
  • Simmer
Let the contents simmer for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat
Remove the saucepan from the hot burner.
  • Steep
Let the syrup steep for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Transfer to a glass jar
Pour the syrup into a glass jar through a mesh strainer. The strainer will remove lavender blossoms and pieces.
  • Let it cool
Let the syrup cool in the glass jar until it reaches room temperature.
  • Transfer to the fridge

Making lavender latte

  • Brew coffee
If you are using an espresso machine, brew one shot of espresso (or two if you want the extra caffeine). If you do not own an espresso machine, brew one cup of strong coffee. We suggest a dark roast. In general, the ratio of coffee to milk should be 2/3 cups of coffee to 1/3 cup of milk. Remember, with a latte, the milk should not overpower the coffee. If you are making a honey lavender latte or a lavender mocha latte, you should stir in the flavors at this step. You will add the flavor into the mug and stir the coffee with a spoon.
  • Warm and froth milk
Warm the milk and use a hand frother to create the perfect bubbles. If you do not have a frother, you can add the milk into a sealed jar leaving plenty of room at the top, and vigorously shake. If you have a blender, you can use a blender to froth your milk. These processes work with whole and non-dairy milk, such as oat milk.
  • Pour milk over top of coffee and syrup mixture
Once you have gotten the perfect bubbles, you can use a large spoon to hold back the froth and pour the warm milk into your coffee. Using the same spoon, you will add the froth. Finally, add 2tbs of the lavender syrup to the top.
